چکیده

We propose a rigorous full-wave modal analysis based on the eigenmodes approach (\textquotedblleft supermodes\textquotedblright), that allows calculation of transverse electric ($TE$) and magnetic ($TM$) stationary propagation in coupled $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric slab waveguide. Our findings show group velocity, for fundamental $TE_{0}$ supermode, passes from superluminal to subluminal speed over both sides critical point (CP), located near exceptional (EP). also demonstrate first higher-order $TE_{1}$, exhibits slow light phenomenon around EP.

Superluminal to subluminal transition in the pulse propagation in a resonantly absorbing medium.

We have examined the propagation of femtosecond laser pulses in an absorbing dye solution through a short to a long range of propagation distance. The transmitted pulses show strong spectral shift and a superluminal to subluminal transition in the propagation velocity keeping its initial shape almost intact. It is verified that the peak velocity is well described by a modified group velocity v(...

تأثیر گاف نوار فوتونی بر انتشار پالس بازتابی از بره آلاییده شده توسط اتم‌های دو ترازی و سه ترازی

In this paper the effect of photonic band gap on the group velocity of reflected pulse from a dielectric slab doped with two-level or three-level atoms has been investigated. It is assumed that the slab is sandwiched between a uniform medium (like vacuum) and a one-dimensional photonic crystal. It is shown that the reflected pulse from the slab doped with two-level (three-level) atoms will be...

Ultra high energy cosmic rays: subluminal and superluminal shocks

Diffusive shock acceleration is invoked to explain non-thermal particle acceleration in Supernova Remnants, Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) Jets, Gamma ray Bursts (GRBs) and various large scale cosmic structures. The importance of achieving the highest observed particle energies by such a mechanism in a given astrophysical situation is a recurring theme. In this work, shock acceleration in relativ...

Transparent anomalous dispersion and superluminal light-pulse propagation at a negative group velocity

Anomalous dispersion cannot occur in a transparent passive medium where electromagnetic radiation is being absorbed at all frequencies, as pointed out by Landau and Lifshitz. Here we show, both theoretically and experimentally, that transparent linear anomalous dispersion can occur when a gain doublet is present. Therefore, a superluminal light-pulse propagation can be observed even at a negati...

Cosmic ray acceleration in subluminal and superluminal relativistic shock environments

The flux of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs) at E > 1018.5 eV is believed to arise in plasma shock environments in extragalactic sources. Galactic sources are not able to generate these high energies and the distribution of charged particles is too isotropic to originate from the galaxy. The best candidates for particle acceleration up to 1021 eV are believed to be the Active Galactic Nuc...
